Odisha government issues final notification for 24 new NACs

The Odisha government on Monday issued final notifications for the creation of 24 new notified area councils (NACs) across 14 districts in the state.

With the addition of these new councils, the total number of NACs in Odisha has increased to 86.

Earlier, the Housing and Urban Development department had issued draft notifications seeking objections and suggestions from people likely to be affected by the proposed creation of the new NACs.

In a related development, the department has also issued draft notifications for upgrading five existing NACs into municipalities. The draft notifications include details of villages proposed to be included within the limits of the upgraded urban local bodies, an official said.

Stakeholders have been asked to submit their objections and suggestions through their respective district collectors within 30 days, the officer told PTI.

At present, apart from 86 NACs, Odisha has 48 municipalities and five municipal corporations.
