ReNew signs long-term deal with Google for 150 MW solar project in Rajasthan

India’s ReNew Energy Global said on Tuesday that it has signed a long-term agreement with Alphabet-owned Google to develop a 150-megawatt (MW) solar power project in the western Indian state of Rajasthan.

The agreement aligns with Google’s target of operating entirely on carbon-free energy by 2030. It also comes at a time when India is seeking to expand its non-fossil-fuel power generation capacity to 500 gigawatts by the end of the decade.

Several US-based technology companies, including Amazon and Microsoft, have been entering into large renewable energy agreements globally as they work to reduce emissions linked to energy-intensive data centres.

The 150 MW solar project is scheduled to be commissioned in 2026. ReNew said the project is expected to generate around 425,000 megawatt hours of clean electricity annually, which is equivalent to powering more than 360,000 Indian households.

ReNew is among India’s largest independent power producers and is listed in the United States. The company had a clean energy portfolio of about 18.5 gigawatts as of early 2025.

Commenting on the agreement, Vrushali Gaud, global director of climate operations at Google, said, “…it (agreement) brings new solar capacity onto the grid in a key region, and helps address challenging portions of our value chain emissions.”
