India reports 18% jump in FDI to USD 35.18 bn; strong surge from US investors

India recorded an 18 per cent rise in foreign direct investments (FDI) to USD 35.18 billion during April-September of the current fiscal year, according to government data released on Monday.

The latest figures show a continued increase in overseas investor interest, with the inflow from the United States more than doubling during the same period.

FDI inflows from the US stood at USD 6.62 billion in April-September, marking a sharp rise compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.

This increase reflects a broader trend of higher foreign investment, with the government noting that total overseas inflows in April-September of the last fiscal had amounted to USD 29.79 billion.

The data also shows that foreign investments continued to strengthen in the preceding June-September quarter of 2025-26. During this four-month period, inflows increased by over 21 per cent year-on-year to USD 16.54 billion.

Officials said the rise in both quarterly and half-yearly figures indicates sustained confidence among global investors in India’s economic outlook and policy environment.

The government has been tracking the momentum in FDI across major sectors and partner countries, with the US emerging as one of the most significant contributors in recent years.

The figures released on Monday highlight the continued expansion of investment interest from American businesses alongside the overall growth in overseas inflows.
