Assam clears Rs 479 crore for phase-1 of judicial township in North Guwahati

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday (November 9) said the state cabinet has approved the release of Rs 479 crore in the first phase to build a judicial township in North Guwahati.

Speaking at a press conference after the cabinet meeting, Sarma said the project has received administrative approval for development over 100 bighas (around 33 acres) of land at Rangmahal.

“The cabinet accorded the administrative approval for the first phase of the work to construct the state-of-the-art judicial township at Rangmahal, North Guwahati. It will cost Rs 478.78 crore,” the chief minister said.

He said the first phase will focus on creating a comprehensive High Court complex, with interconnected buildings forming the judicial hub of the region. The plan includes the High Court, bar offices, and administrative blocks, according to the cabinet note.

In another decision, the cabinet approved the ‘Assam Startup and Innovation Policy 2025–30’, aimed at transforming Assam into one of India’s leading hubs for entrepreneurship and innovation in the next five years.

“The total financial implication for a period of five years will be Rs 397 crore,” Sarma said.

The cabinet also cleared the proposal to set up ‘SU-KA-PHA University, Assam’, preferably in Charaideo district, as part of the state’s higher education expansion plans.

Additionally, the cabinet approved the determination of the date of effect of promotion under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) for Assistant Professors and Librarians of government-funded colleges in the state.
