India Maritime Week: Kolkata Port signs MoUs worth Rs 48,000 crore

The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK), said on Wednesday it has secured investment commitments exceeding Rs 48,000 crore through a series of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) during India Maritime Week-2025 in Mumbai.

The agreements were signed at the event organised by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, and involve major infrastructure and logistics players.

SMPK signed MoUs with Dredging Corporation of India for long-term dredging operations, and with Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd for developing tank-farm and POL (petroleum, oil and lubricants) handling infrastructure at Haldia Dock.

It also entered into partnerships with Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd, JSW Infrastructure Ltd and Century Ports & Harbours Ltd to develop new container-terminal projects under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

UltraTech Cement Ltd will set up a cement bulk terminal at the Kolkata dock on a captive basis.

The port also signed agreements with Srijan Real Estate & Infrastructure Pvt Ltd and Eden Realtors Ltd for riverfront development on port-owned land, the port authority said in a statement.

The port did not disclose the individual investment amounts for the projects.

“These partnerships mark a defining step in SMPK’s journey of transformation. By bringing together industry leaders and forward-looking institutions, we are building a future-ready maritime ecosystem that enhances trade capacity, attracts global investment, and supports sustainable and inclusive growth for the region,” SMPK Chairman Rathendra Raman said.
