Punjab approves new building rules permitting stilt-plus-four floor construction

The Punjab cabinet on Tuesday approved the Punjab Unified Building Rules, 2025, allowing construction of stilt-plus-four floors in new urban sectors.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the council of ministers chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Officials said the new rules will apply to plots measuring a minimum of 250 square yards in newly developed urban areas.

A spokesperson from the chief minister’s office said the approval aims to standardise building norms across the state’s urban local bodies and development authorities. The move is expected to provide clarity on construction guidelines and support organised urban development.

The rules are part of the state government’s efforts to streamline approvals for new projects and ensure uniformity in building regulations across emerging urban areas.

The government said the updated framework will help developers plan projects efficiently while complying with safety and urban planning standards.
