Belagavi Smart City Bus Terminal Inaugurated, Operations Yet to Begin

A newly constructed City Bus Terminal (CBT) in Belagavi, developed under the Smart City Mission, was inaugurated on 4 October 2025, but remains closed to the public pending final approvals.

Built with modern amenities including 28 bus bays, escalators, lifts, CCTV surveillance, and dedicated women’s restrooms, the terminal was designed to replace the old facility that handled over 150 daily bus movements under congested conditions.

However, the official handover from the Smart City project team to the North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) is yet to be completed.

Local MP Jagadish Shettar criticised the early inauguration, saying the building was opened before being operationally ready.

City officials said a technical inspection is underway and the handover process will be completed soon, following which bus operations are expected to begin.

The project aims to ease urban traffic congestion and improve passenger convenience in one of Karnataka’s fastest-growing tier-2 cities.
