Mumbai to Complete All Transport Integration by 2029, CM Fadnavis Announces

Mumbai’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that the city’s transport infrastructure, combining metro, suburban rail, buses and connectivity corridors, will be fully integrated by 2029.

This plan aims to enable residents to travel across Mumbai in just 59 minutes.

Speaking at a real estate and urban development event, Fadnavis said a “war room” has been set up to ensure coordination among various state, municipal and transport agencies, helping speed up project execution.

The integration agenda places special emphasis on Navi Mumbai, where new infrastructure like the airport, coastal roads, and metro corridors are expected to anchor growth. Fadnavis said that 60 per cent of upcoming data centers in Maharashtra will be located in Navi Mumbai, making the region a technology and innovation hub.

Among projects cited are expansion of metro lines, improvements in intermodal connectivity, and new road corridors including the Atal Setu / Trans Harbour Link and a proposed circular traffic corridor.

He also emphasised curbing illegal construction by deploying geo-spatial monitoring tools tied to building plans and real time satellite imagery, particularly in growth areas like Mira–Bhayandar, Thane, and Vasai–Virar.

The vision positions Mumbai not only as a more efficient metropolis, but also aims to shift economic momentum to Navi Mumbai and peripheral zones under a unified, multimodal transport regime.
