AMRUT 2.0: Gujarat Approves 927 Urban Development Projects Worth Rs 16,316 Crore

The Gujarat government has approved 927 projects worth Rs 16,316 crore under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0, aimed at strengthening basic urban infrastructure across the state.

The projects cover water supply, sewerage, stormwater management, parks, and pond restoration across major cities and towns. They are jointly funded by the Central government, the Gujarat government, and urban local bodies.

According to officials, a major share of the investment will go towards expanding water and sewerage networks in fast-growing cities, improving quality of life and promoting sustainable urban growth.

The state government said that the mission will also focus on improving greenery and public amenities.

The projects will include the development of urban parks, water bodies, and environmental conservation works, ensuring that urban expansion aligns with ecological priorities, reported The Times of India.

Of the total projects, around 450 relate to drinking water supply, 320 to sewerage and waste management, and the rest to stormwater drainage, parks, and beautification.

A senior state urban development official said that work on several projects has already started and tendering for the rest will be completed in phases over the next few months.

Launched by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, AMRUT 2.0 aims to provide functional tap connections and water security for all urban households, in addition to creating cleaner and more liveable cities.

Gujarat’s latest project approvals mark one of the largest state-level urban investment packages under the scheme so far.
