Satcom to become backbone of India’s digital infrastructure: Jitendra Singh

Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Wednesday said satellite communication (satcom) will play a major role in expanding India’s digital infrastructure, particularly in remote and rural areas.

Speaking at the India Mobile Congress 2025 in New Delhi, the minister said that satcom will complement terrestrial networks and help achieve the goal of universal digital connectivity.

He added that India’s space economy, valued at USD 8.4 billion in 2022, is projected to grow nearly fivefold by 2033, driven by satellite launches, communication systems, and private participation.

Singh highlighted that India’s satellite capabilities are supporting key national initiatives in agriculture, health, disaster management, and education.

The minister said the government is promoting indigenous satellite manufacturing and encouraging startups to enter the space technology ecosystem.
