SoftBank-owned Graphcore to invest Rs 10,800 crore in India over next decade

SoftBank-backed UK semiconductor company Graphcore has announced an investment of Rs 10,800 crore (USD 1.3 billion) in India over the next 10 years.

The company said it will open its first India office in Bengaluru and begin hiring more than 100 artificial intelligence and semiconductor engineers in the initial phase.

The announcement was made during the India Mobile Congress 2025 in New Delhi.

According to Graphcore, the investment will focus on developing semiconductor design, research, and AI computing capabilities. The Bengaluru centre will also serve as a regional hub for innovation and support services.

The company’s move aligns with India’s growing emphasis on chip manufacturing and design under the government’s semiconductor mission.

Graphcore CEO Nigel Toon said India’s talent base and policy environment make it an ideal location for long-term investment.

The company plans to expand its partnerships with Indian universities and research institutions to develop advanced chip technology and promote skill development.
