Nagpur Sees Record Rail Rush as 2.5 Lakh Devotees Arrive for Dhammachakra Pravartan Din

Nagpur witnessed an unprecedented rail rush on Dhammachakra Pravartan Din, with more than 2.5 lakh passengers arriving in the city to attend the annual Buddhist congregation.

Railway officials said that the Central Railway recorded a 257 per cent increase in passenger inflow on 3 October, compared to normal days.

Special trains were operated to manage the surge, with additional staff deployed for passenger safety and crowd control at Nagpur and Ajni stations.

The event marks the day when Dr BR Ambedkar embraced Buddhism in 1956 along with his followers, and it draws lakhs of devotees every year from across India.

Authorities reported that more than 70 special trips were arranged to facilitate travel, with continuous monitoring from the control room.

The district administration also coordinated with railway officials to manage traffic, security, and cleanliness measures around the venue and major junctions.
