Nashik to Lay 90 km of New Sewer Lines Across Six Divisions at a Cost of Rs 190 Crore

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has approved a Rs 190 crore plan to lay 90 kilometres of new sewer lines across six administrative divisions, as part of its ongoing urban infrastructure upgrade.

According to civic officials quoted by The Times of India, the project will be funded through a tripartite structure — 25 per cent from the central government, 25 per cent from the Maharashtra government, and 50 per cent from NMC’s own resources. The work is being carried out under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 scheme.

Under the plan, approximately 42 kilometres of sewer lines will be installed in the Panchavati, CIDCO and Nashik East divisions, costing Rs 90 crore. The remaining 48 kilometres, covering Nashik Road, Satpur and Nashik West divisions, will account for the balance Rs 100 crore.

Officials said the project would help replace several ageing pipelines, particularly those located along the right bank of the Godavari River. This is expected to reduce leakages, improve waste-water management and enhance overall sanitation levels in the expanding city.

Tenders for the project are expected to close by 15 October, with construction likely to begin in November once contractor appointments are finalised. The work will be implemented in phases to minimise disruption in densely populated areas.

Civic engineers said the project would significantly improve the city’s drainage network, especially in areas where the population has grown rapidly in recent years. The scheme aligns with the state government’s efforts to improve basic urban services in Maharashtra’s tier-2 cities.
