UPITS 2025 Day 1 Opens With Strong Global Buyer Presence

The third edition of the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show (UPITS 2025) opened on 25 September at the India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida, drawing strong international participation and a renewed focus on diversifying India’s export markets.

Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the five-day event (25–29 September) is co-organised by the Government of Uttar Pradesh and India Exposition Mart Ltd. The Prime Minister, in his address, highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s transformation as a hub for MSMEs, handicrafts, agriculture, IT, and electronics, stressing the role of trade shows like UPITS in connecting Indian producers with global buyers and reducing overdependence on a few export destinations.

Expanded Buyer Presence

Day one saw participation from over 2,500 exhibitors and a significant rise in international buyer presence. Organisers reported that more than 500 overseas buyers from nearly 80 countries are attending this year’s edition, including delegations from Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Latin American participation in particular has grown sharply, with estimates showing a 70 per cent increase in buyers from the region compared to the previous edition.

This emphasis on new geographies is seen as a strategic response to global trade shifts, especially recent tariff actions by some markets. Exporters and policymakers alike described UPITS as a timely platform to tap emerging demand from less-traditional regions.

Russia as Partner Country

A major highlight this year is Russia’s role as the Partner Country. The Russian delegation is participating across multiple sectors, with a special Russia–India Business Dialogue scheduled for 26 September. The session will bring together trade representatives, industrialists, and government officials to discuss investment opportunities and joint ventures.

The partnership reflects both nations’ intent to deepen commercial ties, particularly in defence, energy, agriculture, and MSME cooperation.

Key Sectors and Exhibits

The trade show floor covers a wide spectrum of industries:

• Handicrafts and Textiles under the ODOP (One District One Product) initiative, showcasing regional specialities from across Uttar Pradesh.
• Agriculture and Food Processing, with a strong focus on packaged foods, dairy, and organic produce.
• Electronics and IT, including start-ups and digital solution providers.
• Leather and Footwear, which continue to be export growth drivers for the state.
• Wellness and AYUSH, highlighting traditional medicine and natural products.
• Tourism and Hospitality, promoting Uttar Pradesh as a cultural and investment destination.

Exhibitors ranged from small artisans to large corporations, underlining the government’s stated goal of creating an inclusive platform that benefits both micro-enterprises and global-scale manufacturers.

Business Opportunities and Youth Engagement

In addition to traditional buyer–seller meets, day one also featured announcements around the CM YUVA initiative, with MoUs planned to be signed later in the week with 27 universities. This scheme is designed to support youth entrepreneurship and innovation, linking student projects with industry stakeholders and market opportunities.

Organisers expect the trade show to attract 1.25 lakh B2B visitors and 4.5 lakh B2C visitors over its five-day duration, making it one of the largest such platforms in North India. For many SMEs and start-ups, UPITS is not only a chance to secure export orders but also to test new products, connect with distributors, and explore collaborations.
